At that time in the breed development in Australia (in the late 70's and early 80's due to lifting of the import ban in 1972), imported dogs were taking precedence at stud as new blood was being imported into the country on a regular basis. Australian bred dogs were finding it difficult to attract studs and popularity. By the time Dino had won his second National medal, he was starting to get regular stud work and make his mark as a stud dog, although he didn't attract the amount of top quality bitches that the top imported dogs received. Nevertheless, his impeccable producing bloodlines came to the fore to produce many top show winning and producing progeny, many of these from unsurveyed and/or unshown bitches. In 1985 and 1987 Dino won the NSW GSDL Sires Progeny Point Score. In 1984,1986 and 1988 he was Runner-up. Considering that Dino only received a low level of breed surveyed dams at stud - 32% according to L Donald in 1986, (German Shepherd Dog Quarterly National Review, July 1986) it is clear that Dino had much to contribute to the breed as in 1989 he topped the chart as having the highest number of breed surveyed progeny sired by an Australian bred dog (The Essential German Shepherd Dog, R & C Allan) and was fifth overall from 34 sires (mainly imported sires) (Condensed History of the German Shepherd Dog in Australia, 1990, p 141). Dino's progeny on the whole, demonstrated the strengths and typeyness of Kurtlee Minnisota and amongst his best winning progeny were VA Ch.Landrina Magic Melody, VA Denargun Chardi and VA Elvarado Super Star, who also demonstrated the Minnisota type. Dino sired many other Excellent graded progeny, National winners and placegetters and winners at all major Australian shows. Many of his progeny have proven to carry the strengths of his producing bloodlines and have been good producers also. On the whole Dino sired better females than males and his daughters, including many which did not come from top show-winning dams, have gone on to become producing and/or foundation dams for many winning kennels in Australia today. Dino has sired at least 29 Excellent graded animals with 3 Excellent Selects. (Click link at the bottom of the page to view Dino's VA & V Rated progeny) Dino died prematurely in 1988 at just seven and a half years old. Just prior to his death his daughter was awarded Australia's first Siegerin and his sister was awarded Vice Siegerin at the First Main Breed Show. His grandaughter was VA5 at the same show. At the 2nd Main Breed show his daughter again took Siegerin and his son took Junior Sieger (and this son went on later to gain his VA). Unfortunately, Dino had been too ill to exhibit at the First Main Breed Show to attain his own VA Grading. Dino lives on in the
bloodlines of a high percentage of Australia's current
top winning dogs which are taking top honours at major
Australian shows and his blood can be found in the top
producing brood bitches behind dozens of successful
